Welcome to Apologia Evangelical Lutheran Mission!
St. Peter writes in his first epistle: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer [apologian] to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” (1 Pet. 3:15, KJV).
At Apologia, we teach the Christian faith so that all our members know the reason of the hope that is in them and are ready to give an apologia (answer) to anyone who asks them. Our members learn the hope of eternal life through weekly Divine Services, where they are instructed in repentance and the forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ. They learn an apologia for their faith through weekly Catechesis and Bible studies, where they are further instructed in the writings of the Old and New Testaments and in Luther’s Small Catechism.
Our congregation is unabashedly Lutheran, because the Lutheran faith is the Christian faith. Our pastors subscribe to the Lutheran Book of Concord (Dresden, 1580) because it is a faithful exhibition of the Holy Scriptures and a useful confession of our faith.
We are enthusiastically liturgical because the liturgy likewise confesses our faith and puts God’s Word on display. While many Christian worship practices today focus on a sacrifice and a praise that man offers to God, the historic liturgy focuses on the gifts that God offers to us. The Divine Service (or the liturgy) centers around the preaching of God’s Word and the blessings promised in Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
